Ladies and Gentlemen,

As some of you know I have bought a MaineCat P-47 and
am in the process of taking it from Muscongus BAy in MAine to the APostle
Islands in Lake Superior.  Trip will be via NYC, Hudson River, Erie CAnal,
Oswego Canal, LAke Georgian Bay, North CHannel, Macinac Island Sault Sainte
Marie, Portage Canal and on to Ashland Wisconsin.

I have limited time since
we are just two and plenty to do but thought I'd post the following-
total
distance 350 nautical miles
total fuel consumed    232.2 gal
1.73 kpg
total
trip time 29.8hrs
avg speed 11.74 k  most cruising done between 14 and 18 kts
with ocassional bursts higher for engine breakin.  much slow cruising entering
harbors including side trip to boston harbor.

Top speed is in the 23-24 knot
range at 24 gph with two new Volvo D3 220 hp 5 cylinder diesels

14-16 knots
in reasonably calm water yields 1.5 naut mi per gallon.

Did well in 10-12 ft
swells with added chop, but not real enjoyable.

Let me know if anybody wants
to know something in particular and I will do my best to answer.

How wonderful to have actually found the yacht of your choice, now taken
delivery and actually being behind the wheel going to your first
destination. The enjoyment of everything being new and exciting and living
your dream must be one of those wonderful moments in life.

For all of us "wanabees" still looking and thinking, tell us about your
first night on your new boat. What was forgotten, what was missed and what
will you do when you get to your destination.

Some of us would like you to share "Our Common Dream" maybe it will be that
last thing that motivates us into action.

Thanks in Advance

Gary:
Good to know that someone has one of these here.  My wife and I are some
distance from seeking a live-aboard cat, but that is our eventual goal.
Please give us a report from time to time about the character of this new
boat.  Q.  Did you opt for the fly-bridge model?  Thanks again for the great
info, and I hope that future congratulations are due on your selection.
