Hi Allan
Yes, we as manufacturer of MotorCat 30 doing the research to use electric
engines , in fact that MC30 is one of the unique cats in regards to light
construction and it`s weight .Our dealer from England use single Minnkota E
drive 1.5 KW ( 2,1 HP ) and a standard MC with antifoul and 2 persons
touches 5 mph shown on gps . It was more than we can expected coz MC30
speed curve show that it should be possible , when 4 hp is installed . We
will be looking over this concept with a setup of 16 batteries, 48 V battery
charger, 3 kw generator and 2x Minnkota E drive engines. Weight of batteries
and placing them will be the main issue . Attached a photo of used electric
outboard
Regards
Kris

Temat: [PCW] Alan Hall introduction
I cruise the Ohio river on my 30 foot cruiser.
I want to do the great loop soon as I am 58 and retired. I have always
wanted a power cat but all my research is showing the cost to purchase is
too far out of my reach. Maybe I will hit the lottery. Anyway, I think a cat
is just the ticket for all waters, especially the inland rivers where you
see a lot of shallow areas. With their high fuel economy I think they may
start appearing on the rivers in large numbers.
Something I have wondered about for many many years is why don't
manufacturers use electric power in their catamarans? It was used very well
in world war II vessels so why not cats? Especially now with battery
techknowledgy and solar panels as well. Can't this double or triple your
fuel economy? However, at what cost?
I love hearing about cats

Welcome aboard, Alan!
Perhaps one of the designers or builders on the List will respond to you
question about electric power for propulsion.
