As with any new boat, there are "issues" (don't let anyone every try and tell
you to buy a new boat because there will be no problems!).
I am very pleasantly surprised how well warantee work--and even beyond have
been handled by C Dory (Tom Cat 255). Today I had a catastropic failure of
the Teleflex/Sea Star hyraulic steering pump--leaked hyraulic fluid out of the
pump body. I called the dealer (Wefing's marine, Eastport FL) and withing an
hour was informed that a new pump, new tubing and new Liquid Tie Bar valves
were being shipped overnight to me by C Dory. I offered to install the new
pump, but no, Wefing's would send their hydraulic specialist over 200 miles to
my home to install the new pump and be sure the system was working properly.
I also both E mailed and Called Teleflex. Within 5 hours I had an answer both
by E mail and from an administrator that Teleflex was standing behind their
product and would expedite all of the repair. Teleflex also admitted that
there must have been a flaw in the casting of the pump or a gasket
failure--but also warned me about other items which could cause hydraulic
problems in the future.
There have been some cosmetic issues and both two part paint and gel coat, a
faulty guage replacement and other minor issues which were resolved in a
matter of days. I also find the factory very responsive to suggestions on
ways to improve the boat, based on my past experience and using the boat.
After reading some of the horror stories, it is very refreshing to find a
company which is standing 100% behind their product.
I know that Glacier Bay also has an excellent reptuation of standing behind
their product, as does World Cat. It seems that the boats which have the
best reputation, also have the best service.
