Ever wanted to try your hand at green design?

Tacoma Green Infrastructure Challenge
Student/Faculty Info Session
Thursday, Oct 30, 12:30-1:20pm
UW Tacoma, DOU 260 (http://www.tacoma.uw.edu/campus-map/campus-map)

What's your green infrastructure design vision for Tacoma?

This is a State-wide platform that demonstrates the economic,
environmental and marketing benefits of sustainable site development. For
students and faculty living/working in Tacoma, this is your opportunity to
get hands-on experience in green design and possibly win a prize!

All college students and faculty are invited to this information session
to learn more about the Challenge and how to form a team!  Students and
faculty can form their own team and recruit professionals to join your
team!

Each design challenge represents an actual property where the owner wants
to showcase sustainable development methods. Entries will be accepted in
the following three design challenge categories.

Industrial Redevelopment - 1171 Taylor Way, Port of Tacoma
Urban Redevelopment - SERA, Metro Parks, Tacoma
Green Roadway - South Tacoma Way, City of Tacoma

The Final Awards Ceremony is March 7, 2014
A prize will be awarded to the winner in each category.

Award winning teams and design will be featured in a local TV Tacoma show
and Tacoma E-news Magazine.

Why You Should Participate
Recognition!  Show off your skills and innovative ideas, and promote
student and professional creativity in an eclectic environment.

You will receive hands-on learning with green stormwater infrastructure
that can be applied to everyday design, construction and development
practice.

Nothing to lose! No entry fee is required to participate, yet there's
prize money up for grabs for each winning team.

Form a Winning Team
Each entry must come from an integrated design team consisting of a
minimum of one Washington State licensed professional Civil Engineer,
Landscape Architect or Geotechnical Engineer. The inclusion of team
members from the Land Planning, Development, and Construction disciplines
is strongly recommended. To promote design creativity and extend
educational experience, teams are highly encouraged to include local
undergraduate students.

Each team should have at least one team member that works, studies, lives
or plays in Tacoma.

Come join us to learn more!  Contact Jim Gawel (TGIC Steering Committee
member) for questions.

Cheers,
Jim
