I assume those on this list are aware of the STWC programs and training that
is available nearly every where. Any who hold an kind of a Merchant ticket
need to have this Endorsement on it.

It has become a requirement even for non-licensed people employed in the
charter business. As an example all of the folks who deal with boats and
guests in the bareboat charter business are required to have taken it.

It is a very valuable course in that it covers many subjects including
firefighting, watch keeping, man overboard, liferaft boarding etc, etc. All
very good stuff. It's all done in pools or close to shore but I assure you
you'll be gasping for breath and wondering if you can get thru it. Knocking
down a fire inside a confined area will get your attention. With the right
facility this can be a very real experience.

The courses are available to anyone and are held virtually everywhere there
are merchant fleets.

Go to http://www.stcw.org/links.html and find a school near you and check
into it. The cost usually runs from $500 to a $1000 and when you're done
you'll be far better equipped both mentally and with experience to cope with
a bad day at sea.

As always YMMV,

Cheers
