Hello PUPsters, my wife Dorothy and I are just completing 30 year careers in
law enforcement here in Northern California (Sonoma County, north of San
Francisco). My last assignment was supervision of the Marine Unit, covering inland
Sonoma Co., northern San Francisco Bay and coastal (out 12 miles) waters. My
boating background is 30 years of near coastal and surf rescue boat
operations, divemaster and crewing live-aboard dive boats around the world (Hawaii,
Australia, N.Zealand, North Sea, GB) and sea kayaking a variety of North American
West Coast areas as well as the Kamchatka Peninsula (Siberia).
Our boat, a Diesel Duck 46+2 is currently under construction by Seahorse
Marine, Zhuhai, China. Hull#2 (ours) will be launched Feb/Mar2005 and we'll bring
it home on its own bottom.
Currently we're learning as much as we can about trawler boat systems and
seeing what applies from our former life and what we need that's new. TWL has
been a big help the last 2 years and we're looking forward to picking the brains
of folks on this list.

When you have a minute, how about explaining why you selected the
Diesel Duck for your passagemaker, what other boats were candidates
and why they didn't make the cut.
Glad to have you aboard!

Dave, Dorothy and others--
What are your thoughts about what routes to follow between Asia and
the U.S., and what timing might be best for such voyages?
