Hello Racers,

WEDNESDAY NIGHT RACERS
FUN TURKEY RACE
SEPTEMBER 3, 2014

If you are not trying new things, you are not living much. Is that how the saying goes or is this one of my Turkish Phrases translating badly. Whichever is true, here comes a new and exciting idea.

Slow boats are tired of being in the back of the pack. We want to have a new way of starting the races. Instead of grouping the starts and keeping the time records at the end of the race, let's switch it around and give everyone a start time so that we all meet at the finish,( if we all are to race perfectly to our ratings). So if I am passing as a small boat during the race and finishing in front that means I am really winning and instant gratification. This way; since we know that wind dies towards to end of the race (historically and generally, I really do not want to open an NBC debate on this one) does not affect the slow boats that much.

Boats will start depending on their PHRF, with the highest PHRF rated boats starting first, and the lowest PHRF rated boats starting last. The first boat over the Finish line is the winner. The race will be 2, 3 or 4 miles long, depending on weather conditions. The course will be windward/leeward. PRO Howie Rinehart is thinking about a downwind start (weather permitting).

Proposed starting times are attached, and one of the jobs of the Race Committee will be to make sure you don’t cross the starting line before your appointed time.
Since this is called a Turkey Race, we presume winners will receive a turkey (turkeys to more than one winner?) on the patio following the race.

We want to try this in the week of after our official Wednesday Night season ends. So come out and play on September 3rd 2014 Wednesday to our Fun Turkey Race Challenge.

Fleet Captain - Racing

I would like to extend my thanks to culprits: John Michaels, Lee Luce, David DeVries and Howie Reinhart.
Disclaimer: Me being Turkish and race being called Turkey Race is coincidental and we did not harm any living being during the process, so be nice.
