The Perkins 4-108 uses so little fuel at normal cruising speeds that the
margin of error of the Flow Scan will make measurement extremely inaccurate. In my
Willard, the Perkins 4-108 uses only .82 gallons per hour at 6 knots. By
pushing the throttle to the wall, I can increase fuel consumption to 1.2 gallons
per hour. The operating manual for the boat suggests that the best way to
calculate fuel consumption is to use a clock and estimate one gallon per hour when
under power.
