Tacoma/Pierce County Community Garden Program Hosts 4th Annual Community Garden Summit to Inform and Energize Local Residents about Community Gardening
Tacoma, WA, May 4, 2013 - Tacoma/Pierce County Community Garden Programhttp://www.cityoftacoma.org/Page.aspx?nid=927, an initiative to promote healthier lifestyles for local residents will gather community gardeners, active and interested citizens for the Community Garden Summit from 10 a.m. PT to 2 p.m. PT May 4, 2013 at the Catholic Community Services (CCS) on S Yakima Ave in Tacoma, Wa.
The Community Garden Summit is the best FREE event in town for those dedicated to community gardening and local development projects. This event will inform, energize, connect and support the local community in their effort to grow a flourishing community garden program in Pierce County.
"There is so much great work happening all over Tacoma and Pierce County - people are coming together and working with neighbors to change their communities for the better. This is a chance to bring everyone together to celebrate that work and help their communities grow even more."- Kristen McIvor, Community Garden Coordinator
The event structure will allow guests to hear from a panel of distinguished representatives from the city of Tacoma and experienced stakeholders in the Community Garden Program. Also offered, a plethora of hands-on and classroom style workshops for guests to choose from. Furthermore, this event will bring together students, amateur and master gardeners, neighbors, family and friends and facilitate building relationships based on common ground, the community gardens. Guests will also be encouraged to make connections with local business and non-profit vendors support community gardening. Activities will include:
- Vendors Row
- Indoor education sessions & hands-on demonstrations in the nearby gardens
- Informed Panelists and Speakers
- Healthy Lunch Option
- Fair Tradin- Tacoma Barter Activity
Notable speakers include Mayor Strickland, Mayor of Tacoma; Ryan Mello, Tacoma City Council member and executive director of Pierce County Conservation District. View the full agenda at http://communitygardensummit.com/agenda.
