Visitors:
We appreciate all the interest in the tower and the hawk watch but remind
everyone that the tower remains closed to members of the public and has a
three-person limit reserved for the Hawk Counters. Thank you to all who are
respecting these precautions. Be safe everyone!
Weather:
The constant today was the strong wind from the west. The day started with
rain, and then it was alternate overcast and clear with line squalls of
sleet and snow. The temperature started at about 10c and steadily
decreased to about 3c.
Raptor Observations:
Very quiet day, with 6 Northern Harriers in the morning, including 3 Gray
ghosts, 4 Red-tailed Hawks late morning and a brief flurry of Turkey
Vultures at midday moving slowly west. 2 Peregrines darted by, one in the
morning and one in the afternoon.
Non-raptor Observations:
Birds flying today were mostly ducks and gulls. Waterfowl are still in
good numbers on the marsh, especially Ring-necked Ducks (3240). It was good
to see Buffleheads, Hooded Mergansers and Tundra Swans. Rusty Blackbirds,
Red-winged Blackbirds, Evening Grosbeaks and Cedar Waxwing were also seen
in reduced numbers. Tree swallows were valiantly flying west low over the
marsh against the wind. The full list is at

Predictions:
Tomorrow will be similar to today, but rain is unlikely and it should be
partly cloudy and brighter. It should warm up throughout the day.
Hopefully the wind may decrease through the day bringing an increase in
Raptors.
