Census 2020 Updates

Colleagues,

Here are three important updates on #Census2020 activities that are happening this week.

First, the Senate has passed the Schatz-Murkowski bipartisan resolution to recognize the importance of the 2020 Census. Census Bureau Director Dillingham issued the following statement (https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2019/rtq-s-con-res-31.html

 

“We thank the U.S. Senate
for their outstanding unanimous 2020 Census resolution which
demonstrates the bipartisan support we see
across the country. We especially commend Sen. Schatz and Sen.
Murkowski for their leadership, as well as U.S. Senate Committee on
Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Chairman Johnson and Ranking
Member Peters. As the Senate has urged, we encourage
everyone who is interested in helping ensure a complete and accurate
count in the 2020 Census to apply for a job at http://2020census.gov/jobs or
get involved as a partner at http://2020census.gov/partners.”

=> Action: Please contact your representatives in the House to urge them to pass the resolution (S.Con.Res. 31). 

Second, on Thursday, January 9, 2020, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, will hold a https://oversight.house.gov/legislation/hearings/reaching-hard-to-count-communities-in-the-2020-census on the Census Bureau’s preparations for the 2020 Decennial Census, including efforts to reach hard-to-count communities.

 WHEN:  Thursday, January 9, 2020

 TIME:  10:00 a.m. EST

PURPOSE: The hearing will examine the Census Bureau’s strategies and plans for reaching hard-to-count communities in the 2020 Census.

 John Yang, President and Executive Director, Asian Americans Advancing Justice
 Arturo Vargas, Chief Executive Officer, NALEO Educational Fund

Third, the Census Bureau is increasing its efforts to hire Census workers.
