Total observation time: 9 hours

Official Counter:        Hugh Kent

Observers:        Liz Kent

Visitors:
It was good to meet Suzanne and Jeff from Pelee Island Bird Observatory
today. Many other visitors showed a great interest in the Hawk Watch and
the birds that could be seen from the Tower.

Weather:
Overcast with light wind from the South east. Temperature generally mid
twenties. The rain held off thankfully.

Raptor Observations:
Only 21 raptors today. As predicted Sharp-shinned Hawks were the most
numerous, but still with a low number (17). Highlight was a nice adult
Broad-winged Hawk which did a turn right over the Tower.

Non-raptor Observations:
Marsh bird numbers are being maintained at recent levels, ducks are
increasing with a first of the season single Northern Shoveler seen. Five
species of warbler were seen with Cape May Warbler being the most numerous
as it has been for the last week. A nice Philadelpia Vireo stayed all day
feeding on Dogwood berries. A flock of 8 Lesser Yellowlegs over flew the
tower. Blue Jays (133) are beginning to be seen in greater numbers.
The list is at https://ebird.org/checklist/S118536009

Predictions:
Tomorrow will be similar to today with winds from the South, slightly
stronger, overcast and cooler with a slight chance of rain. Likely we will
have the same mix of raptors with Sharp-shinned Hawks leading the pack.
Hopefully the cooler temperature will encourage greater numbers to migrate.
