Hello everyone,

I figure everyone on this list has seen Trump’s announcement this morning that he is rescinding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Bottom line is that as of today the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will no longer accept new applications for DACA, although the Administration is providing a six month window in which "it will adjudicate certain requests for DACA and associated applications meeting certain parameters.” In essences, applications that have been submitted but haven’t been approved yet. Anyway, the six month phase-out is supposedly to give Congress time to pass a legislative solution.

Thought I’d pass along a few links that might be helpful.

The Department of Homeland Security's memorandum on the DACA rescission:

A couple of links to statement from NCL Members (please share if you have one):

MPI: "All Eyes Turn to Congress, Following Trump Decision to Terminate DACA Program” http://www.migrationpolicy.org/news/all-eyes-turn-congress-following-trump-decision-terminate-daca-program

CLASP: "Trump’s Decision to End the DACA Program Is a Blow to Our Nation’s Values and Future” http://www.clasp.org/news-room/news-releases/trumps-decision-to-end-the-daca-program-is-a-blow-to-our-nations-values-and-future

I tweeted this morning an interesting tidbit from the Times story regarding the president’s basic competence. It also has one of the greatest anonymous source attributions I’ve ever seen:

"As late as one hour before the decision was to be announced, administration officials privately expressed concern that Mr. Trump might not fully grasp the details of the steps he was about to take, and when he discovered their full impact, would change his mind, according to a person familiar with their thinking who spoke on condition of anonymity without authorization to comment on it."
