National Coalition for Literacy Discussion List
View all threadsDear NCL Members,
As you know, COABE is holding a virtual Capitol Hill Day on 4/8/2020. This makes it super easy for everyone to participate!
Here are quick and simple steps to participate which are also noted on our dedicated Capitol Hill Day here https://coabe.org/capitol-hill-day/:
a) Contact your legislator to schedule an appointment using our 3 click editable software HEREhttp://cqrcengage.com/coabe/app/write-a-letter?0&engagementId=505936. If you prefer to send the email from your own inbox, you can look up your legislator's information HEREhttp://cqrcengage.com/coabe/app/lookup?1&m=441527. It's very likely you will receive a response back on your meeting request from an education staffer. That's great! The education staffer is an excellent connection and helps ensure adult education is on the legislator's list of priorities.
b) Continue the outreach. If you do not hear back from your legislator's office, call or send an email again a couple days later.
c) Once your meeting has been confirmed, log it into our scheduler HEREhttp://ssl.capwiz.com/coabe/lrm/feedback.tt?event=67097&mode=appointment.
COABE is holding office hours on April 8th at 9am EST and 12pm EST. You are welcome to join us if you would like to talk with our public policy firm on "game day".

Our new and improved fact sheets are online on our Educate and Elevate campaign sitehttps://educateandelevate.org/map-locator-tool/, along with our national fact sheethttps://drive.google.com/file/d/1zY4uuVLt7k8Xb6mhyanXaNwDixmClx-G/view. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the data task force that worked with me on the new state fact sheets (Tom Nash, ME; Oogie Lamar, MI; Marty Ropog, OH, David Downes, CT; and Ramona George, MO plus Jody Angelone, President-Elect and Don Finn, President).
We also want to alert you to a unique opportunity that is available right now at the state level to access some of the $31 billion in funding that has been set aside for state block grants. More details are available herehttps://myemail.constantcontact.com/TAKE-ACTION--State-funding-for-adult-education-is-available-to-fight-the-impact-of-COVID-19.html?soid=1112004712009&aid=86182KY1f0I, along with a 3 clicks letter to contact your governor and state legislators.
On behalf of the 65,000 teachers and administrators in the system of adult basic education, your state leadership, and your local program, I sincerely hope you will join us virtually on the Hill on 4/8 to help secure federal funding as well as send a quick email to access state funding that's available.
All Hands On Deck,
Sharon Bonney
