Free workshops show you how to live green, save green
Learn how to compost at home, create a rain garden, analyze your water use, weatherize your home and other green living how-to's by attending free workshops at the City of Tacoma EnviroHouse this fall.
The following workshops, held at the EnviroHouse (Tacoma Landfill, 3510 S. Mullen St.), are open to Tacoma and Pierce County residents. Sept. 11: Winter vegetable gardening/winterizing your garden, 9-10:30 a.m.
Sept. 11: Home composting, 11 a.m.-noon
Sept. 12: Rain barrels - how to make and maintain, 2 p.m.
Sept. 18: Residential rain gardens, 10 a.m.
Sept. 25: Solatube natural daylighting and self-installation, 11 a.m.
Sept. 29: Winter vegetable gardens with cold frames, 10:30 a.m.
October
Oct. 2: Analyzing your home water use, 1:30-3 p.m.
Oct. 3: Weatherization: windows and insulation, 2-4 p.m.
Oct. 9: Home composting, 11 a.m.-noon
About the EnviroHouse
As the Puget Sound area's only permanent green model home, the City of Tacoma EnviroHouse showcases green building and natural landscape ideas, materials and techniques to create a healthy home and planet. The EnviroHouse is a partnership among City of Tacoma's solid waste, surface water and wastewater utilities, and Tacoma Water and Tacoma Power. Visits by the general public and pre-arranged group tours are welcome during open hours.
