PlayGuide:
Children's Museum of Tacoma PlayGuides are the most public faces of the
Museum and responsible for providing positive, safe, and playful
experiences for our little visitors and caregivers. PlayGuides provide
outstanding, high energy customer service, support the organization by
actively seeking donations from guests, play with our little visitors and
their adults, and maintain the highest levels of cleanliness and safety in
the Museum.
PlayGuide duties include engaging with all guests in playful, positive
interactions, monitoring the galleries for health and safety, and
janitorial tasks. PlayGuide team members also host birthday party and work
as admissions clerks. Opportunities for additional training may be provided
for other programs, including Birthday Blowouts, community outreach events,
and occasionally supporting Play to Learn or the Muse: A Children's Center
on special projects.
All PlayGuides will:
- Showcase consistent, enthusiastic customer service behaviors, both
over the phone and face to face
- Confidently speak about the organization and seek donations from all
guests
- Cheerfully and enthusiastically interact with all visitors
- Be creative, spontaneous, inventive, flexible and able to adapt
activities for varying age ranges
- Understand that play is an important part of learning
- Promote the culture, values and mission of the Children's Museum of
Tacoma, powered by Greentrike
- Follow the Children's Museum of Tacoma's operational policies and
procedures, including those for cash handling and safety and security
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, dining area, lobby, storage
rooms and restrooms
- Contribute to a positive team environment
- Able to work flexible shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends
Summary of Experience:
- Experience in a customer-service related field given preference,
specifically retail or restaurant experience
- Experience with selling strategies and cash handling, given preference
- Previous experience working with children is a plus
Required Education and Skills:
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- High school students actively enrolled and at least 16 years of age
will also be considered
- Customer service and Sales experience preferred
- Experience or training in Early Childhood Education a plus but not
required
- Must be able to pass a background check prior to employment
Physical Requirements:
- Constant standing/walking
- Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying up to 25 lbs.
- Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps
- Constant computer/POS Register and bar equipment usage

PlayGuides are eligible for the Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) and the

Play to Learn Facilitator:
The Children’s Museum of Tacoma is seeking a part-time, seasonal early
learning specialist to join our team of *Play to Learn *facilitators. Play
to Learnfollows a seasonal academic calendar; however, there may be
opportunities for extended year round employment within other Museum
programs.
Play to Learnis a grant funded program that provides a free, high
quality, play based school-readiness program for children and their adult
caregivers. The program supports children and families by offering age
appropriate activities for children and information, resources and support
to help adults foster their child’s development and learning through play.
This 90-minute adult/child drop-in program occurs weekly September through
May in neighborhood settings such as libraries and community centers across
Pierce County.
Position Purpose:
The Children’s Museum of Tacoma *Play to Learn *facilitator is responsible
for delivering exceptional educational experiences for children birth to
age six and their caregivers. *Play to Learn *focuses on the developmental
skills children acquire when given the opportunity to engage in playful,
self-directed learning, as well as on the benefits of having these
experiences alongside peers and trusted adults. A key component of this
position is connecting with parents and caregivers, helping them to
understand the importance of play as the most natural, effective way that
children learn and offering support, encouragement and tools that will
foster the strong connection between play and school readiness.
Approximately 16-24 hours per week; part-time, seasonal (September-May)
employment
Reports to: Learning Experiences Director, Program Manager, and Program
Coordinator
Job Responsibilities:

Collaborating with the Play to Learn team to plan, develop and
implement the Play to Learn program.

Planning for and guiding intentional child learning for each session
of Play to Learnincluding:

Leading developmentally and culturally appropriate, child-directed
play opportunities.

Planning and facilitating art, science, and circle time activities for
children and adults that support child development and growth in all
domains. * Planning for and guiding intentional caregiver learning for each
session of *Play to Learn *including:

Modeling playful experiences and interactions that honor each child or
group of children.

Preparing materials and information on relevant educational topics and
community resources serving children and families.

Responding to and following up on caregiver questions and requests for
assistance and/or information. * Completing administrative and
record-keeping tasks related to Play to Learn.

Participating in reflection and planning meetings with the entire *Play
to Learn *team.

Working in collaboration with co-facilitator, volunteers, caregivers
and children..

Implementing existing program assessment tools.

Distributing marketing materials throughout the community and
gathering resource materials as needed.

Supporting the transportation, maintenance, inventory, set-up, and
break down of supplies at each *Play to Learn *location.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Desire to support children and their caregivers in all domains of
developmental and academic growth.
- Associates in Early Childhood Education -OR- strong relevant
experience supporting young learners.
- Prior experience facilitating play-based learning for adults and
children birth to age six
- Enthusiasm for and prior experience facilitating play-based learning
for children with special needs and their adult caregivers.
- Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices.
- Able to work independently and in collaboration with a co-teacher and
the entire *Play to Learn *team.
- Outstanding written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Able to repeatedly lift up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Valid Washington state driver’s license.
- Must meet the *Play to Learn *driving requirements including proof of
insurance and access to transportation to/from program sites.
Desired Qualifications:

Special preference to bi-lingual Spanish or Korean candidates.

Awareness of the importance of cultural representation in the lives of
children, and experience being part of and/or working withing culturally
diverse communities.

CDA or BA in Early Childhood Education.

BA in Special Education with experience in working in both Early
Childhood and Special Education.

Enthusiasm for and prior experience facilitating play-based learning
for children with special needs and their adult caregivers.

Additional training and experience in working with children who
experience Autism, are medically fragile or experience other special needs
is highly preferred.

Knowledge of Pierce County community resources for families and
children.

Knowledge and or experience working with emergent curriculum and
multi-aged learning environments.
