Replacing rub rail

Thanks to hurricane Ivan and a pine tree, I have a damaged rub rail.  The
surveyor for BoatUS said in his estimate that the only way to replace the
rub rail is to remove and replace the teak toe rail.  This is a very labor
intensive effort, and the toe rail is totally undamaged.  Does anyone have
any experience with any creative alternative for rub rail
repair/replacement?  Not just trying to save some $ boat units, but the 23
year old toe rail is beautiful and I hate to remove and replace it just to
fix a rubber rub rail.
