Gentle Wind - Departing Christmas Island

Just to let everyone know, Gentle Wind has cleared out of
Kiritimati (Christmas
Island) and is heading southeast in the morning, bound for
Rangiroa in French
Polynesia.  It's a 1200nm leg up-hill against the southeast
trade winds, so we
expect to take about 7 days.  We're leaving on Tuesday
morining, but we will
immediately change our calendar back to Monday as we get
back in synch
with the rest of the world.

Everyone here in Kiritimati has been exceptionally kind.
Our total costs on the
island were auS$40 for checking in, and AUS$30 checking out.
Oh, yeah, we
bought some fuel today, too.  2400 liters (around 600-700 US
gallons) at cost
of AUS$1.04 per liter.  With the semi-officlal exchange rate
on the island of
AUS$1.25 = US$1.00, that comes to US$0.83 per liter, or
about US$3.15 per
US gallon - not too bad, considering how remote this place
is.

We briefly met the crew of the research vessel Searcher as
they came in to
the dock for fuel right after us.  We saw Searcher in
Honolulu, too, but never
got a chance to say "Hello".  They're out tagging tuna!

Anyway, enough for now.  Next update will be from Rangiroa,
next week,
