Northstar Newfoundland Club (Ted Mittelstadt),

Thank you for dedicating your time to ring bells for The Salvation Army. In a time when many individuals and families are grappling with rising costs and financial uncertainty, your volunteer work takes on even greater significance.

Electronic Donations at the Kettle:

  • At your kettle you may see a Tap to Give device! This is a great option for those that would like to give but do not carry cash.
  • The sign will have three boxes with different denominations: $5, $10, or $20
  • The donor will choose which amount they would like to give and hold a contactless enabled credit card or phone to that box and wait for two beeps. This usually takes just a few seconds.
  • Once you hear two beeps, the donation has gone through!
  • If you hear four beeps, the donation did not work and they should wait a moment and try again.
  • Additionally, there will be a QR Code on the kettle topper sign that a donor can scan with their phone to give online.

What to Expect:

  • A kettle and bell will be at your location when you arrive. If there is already a ringer there, just let them know you are the next scheduled volunteer and take over for them.
  • As you’re ringing, please wish shoppers a “Merry Christmas” and thank them for their donation.
  • At the end of your shift, simply place the bell and apron on the kettle stand for the next ringer. You are free to leave, even if you have the final shift of the day.
  • Ready to be the best bellringer? We've got a training video to set you up for success. Watch it before your shift.

Final Reminders:

  • All donations must be placed in a locked, Salvation Army Kettle. If the kettle is not on the stand when you arrive, please do not accept any donations and speak with a Salvation Army associate using the contact number below.
  • If you are sick or unable to make it to your bell ringing volunteer shift, please call 651-746-3519 to let us know.
  • Don’t be afraid to have some fun with your bell ringing shift. You are free to sing carols, wear festive clothing, and spread Christmas cheer.
  • Share your bell ringing experience with us on Facebook (Salvation Army North) and Instagram (@SalArmyNorth).
  • Remember, if people approach you while bell-ringing with any questions, i.e. How do I receive services, What kind of programs does the Salvation Army offer or any other questions or concerns, please go ahead and direct them to our website: www.SalvationArmyNorth.org where they can find the answers and contact info for their local Salvation Army location.

More questions? Check out our bell ringer video andFAQs page.

Thank you for being a bell ringer!
