Eveyln got more golden eagles then she expected. Goshawk next time.... Weather: A constant northeast (NE) wind 4-12 mph moved the raptors out over the lake! With temperatures on either side of 10C the day was brisk but most enjoyable. The sun was brights most of the time even when 90% cloud cover established. Barometer 30.04 falling slightly to 29.91 in Hg. Raptor Observations: With the steady NE winds the birds were mostly pushed out over the lake. The returning flight lines were to the northwest then turning west. It was a pain in the neck and eyes to spot and ID buteos moving into and coming out of the southerly sun as they made their way onshore. This was the track they followed most of the day. Many were IDed as unknown buteo. The only species not seen were osprey, goshawk, and merlin. Many group were at the limit of the unaided eye. When one did look up to ID a high bird one was surprised to see 2 or 3 more above it! Non-raptor Observations: Crows dominated the day as the non-raptor species. It is estimated that 5,000 passed during the day. Other birds included bluebird, goldfinch, winter sparrows sp,, many ducks including good numbers of green-winged teal and American coot. One skein (10-15 )of tundra swans moved over early. Predictions: Rain 60% chance of precipitation BUT North to Northwest winds.
