councilmembers doing carpentry work for city
One of my towns is changing to having an ambulance parked in city limits full time. Two of the councilmembers have carpentry skills, and want to volunteer their labor to remodel living quarters for the ambulance crew, in one of the city buildings. Is this permissible? liability issue?All comments appreciated.

I agree with Ray. They cannot be paid. You should talk with your insurer about coverage for officers and employees doing work outside their position and coverage for volunteers. I think crew quarters is a valid purpose, but if you have a contract with a private ambulance company or an EMS District, you should have that in the contract and allocate liability to the provider if you can.
