Fwd: July 7, 2016: CEF Update: LHHS House Approps FY2017

Hello again everyone,

Here is some preliminary info on the House Labor-HHS-ED Subcommittee FY2017 Appropriations bill: a link to the bill text, and a table prepared by CEF that includes numbers from the House Appropriations Committee's press release, along with some additional information and numbers CEF has gathered from other sources.

Note that the bill text doesn’t break out adult education grants from the total appropriation to Perkins/CTE/adult ed, although it does reserve $13,712 million for national leadership —the same as last year. Since the overall appropriation for Career, Technical, and Adult Education is exactly the same as FY 2016, and since we know national leadership is funded the same amount as last year, seems like a good bet that adult education state grants are also going to be flat-funded at the FY 2016 level as well ($581,955 million). But that’s just my own educated guess.

Dear CEF Members:

I. House Labor-HHS-Ed

As a reminder, the House Labor-HHS-ED Subcommittee is marking up their FY2017 Appropriations bill on Thursday, July 7 at 9:45 am in 2358-C Rayburn House Office Building.

Attached is an excel spreadsheet including numbers from the House Appropriations press release, which was released this morning with the bill text, along with some additional information and numbers we’ve gathered from sources. The table is also included at the bottom of this email.

There appears to be some variation between the numbers from the Committee’s press release http://appropriations.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=394633 and the bill text http://appropriations.house.gov/uploadedfiles/bills-114hr-sc-ap-fy2017-laborhhs-subcommitteedraft.pdf (e.g. the Max Pell Grant Award), but sources tell us that the distinction between mandatory and discretionary funding would explain the discrepancies.
