Hi Ralph,  There is both a fee for  lockage and a fee for mooring if you
plan to stay overnight . Overnight mooring  at the locks is not free.

  1. RIDEAU CANAL, CHAMBLY CANAL and OTTAWA RIVER.
    a.  Lockage: Get the Seasonal Lockage Permit. This allows passage through
any number  of locks throughout the entire season. The same Seasonal Permit
is also good for  the Trent Severn, i.e. one permit for all canals run by
Parks Canada in Ontario  and Quebec. ($8.80 /ft)

b. Mooring: Get the Seasonal Overnight Mooring  Permit. The same Seasonal
Permit is also good for the Trent Severn, i.e. one  permit for all canals run
by Parks Canada in Ontario and Quebec. (Normally $9.80  /ft but only $8.80
/ft when purchased with a Seasonal Locking Permit before  March 31).

c. Parks Canada phone : 1-888-773 8888.
On-line Purchase    http://www.parkscanada.ca/ekiosk
(http://www.parkscanada.ca/ekiosk)

NOTE: Ralph plans to cruise both the Rideau and  Trent-Severn.
The following applies to those cruising the Trent-Severn  only.

  1. The Trent Severn is on the regular Great Loop  route.
    TRENT SEVERN ONLY;
    a. Lockage: Get the Transit Permit. This allows  the boater to travel the
entire Trent Severn from Trenton to Port Severn, i.e. a  one time transit
where vessels go through each lock station only once. ( $4.65  /ft).

b. Mooring: Some loopers buy the seasonal mooring permit because  they plan
to spend more than 11 nights moored to lock walls. ($9.80 /ft). I do  not
buy a mooring permit! I prefer to pay as I go at $.90 /ft per night.

c. Fee Schedule:

Mike,

You do not have to pay for your dinghy if it is up on davits or on your swim platform.  However, if you tow your dinghy, then yes you will have to pay for it as another boat.  NOTE:  that your vessel's overall length is not the registered length, but rather the total length from your anchors and anchor pulpit and the end of your dinghy at the stern.  This is particularly true in Michigan where you can not protrude out in a marina fairway beyond the end of the finger piers.

No, although not all sales staff are aware of that.

When we bought our permits the first day at Mallorytown Park last
summer, the young employee rang up charges which included both the
mother-ship and dinghy; she was corrected by a supervisor when we
questioned the substantial extra charge. I seem to recall that there was
a very small extra charge for the dinghy and we got a decal to put on
the dinghy to show we'd paid; I know we got a decal for the dinghy, but
I'm a little hazy on the fee. I do know that it wasn't a doubling of the
fee.
