SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Program
SR 520 public session a success; join us at MOHAI Nov. 9 for the next public session

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the first public session of the Seattle Community Design Process on Saturday, Oct. 1. The meeting was a great opportunity for members of the public to learn about the latest urban design plans and provide their input. The project team received plenty of great feedback that will help inform the ongoing development of urban design principles and features. If you weren’t able to make it, check out the meeting materials online.

Our next open house is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at MOHAI, located just north of SR 520 in Montlake. At this second meeting, we will review what we heard Oct. 1 and continue to discuss ideas and concepts for the corridor urban design. You will have another chance to speak with project staff and view boards and other materials. We hope to see you there!

Get ready: SR 520 closing for girder installation Oct. 15-17 (after the Huskies game)

Our next planned construction closure is Saturday night, Oct. 15, to Monday morning, Oct. 17. We’re looking out for UW football fans and making sure we keep game day traffic flowing on SR 520 and complete major construction all in the same weekend. Kickoff for the Huskies game is Saturday at 12:30 p.m., and we will wait to close the highway and ramps until 8 p.m. Crews will reopen the highway after construction by 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17 .

Just like during previous weekend work, crews plan to completely close the SR 520 floating bridge and highway from Montlake Boulevard in Seattle to I-405 in Bellevue. This time crews will focus on installing the first massive concrete girders that will form a new highway lid in Medina.

Our website has more info about the Eastside Transit and HOV Project, including construction photos and what the new lid will look like.

A special contest: 30 minutes on the Alaskan Way Viaduct – What would you do?
WSDOT is sponsoring a contest where one lucky person will win exclusive access to the viaduct’s downtown section for 30 minutes on Oct. 22. To enter, answer the question “What I would do with 30 minutes on the Alaskan Way Viaduct?” in 100 words or less and send it to viaduct@wsdot.wa.gov by Sunday, Oct. 16. If your idea is selected, you will be escorted to a private section of the viaduct to follow through with your proposal. Check our website for contest details, rules and restrictions.
