For a while now, I've been seeing blue lights where ordinarily they should
be green or red, and in some cases, white. For example, a blue range on a
fixed bridge, instead of green; and, this morning, a blue running light on
a boat, instead of red. It's my understanding that white LEDs do not show
the color of the lens if used in, let's say,in running lights, you must
put in the appropriate color LED. But if white LEDs are used, do they show
blue. If not, why the proliferation of blue lights now-a-days?

White LEDs are really blue or possibly UV LEDs with a white phosphor.
I had a white LED anchor light in which the phosphor became inactive
over a rear or two, so I ended up with a blue anchor light until I could
replace it.

That makes sense, following what I've seen.
