Hello,

I'm writing to let you know about BRINGING TACOMA'S HISTORY TO LIFE, a new Youth Historical Fiction Competitionhttp://www.cityoftacoma.org/cms/One.aspx?portalId=169&pageId=143940 and Resource Guidehttps://write253.files.wordpress.com/2018/01/youth-historical-fiction-booklet_final.pdf for Tacoma teachers and students!

The Resource Guidehttps://write253.files.wordpress.com/2018/01/youth-historical-fiction-booklet_final.pdf is geared towards high-schoolers, and provides four prompts about decisive but little-known moments in Tacoma's history. It includes a discussion guide for teachers around a selection from Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon, and is accompanied by a slide deckhttps://write253.files.wordpress.com/2018/01/youth-historical-fiction-competition-slide-deck.pdf to introduce the material to students graphically.

The competition will be judged by a panel of local writers and historians, and three winners will win cash prizes and share their award-winning stories at an event as part of Historic Preservation Month in May.  Submissions to the Historical Fiction Competition are due on Friday, March 30th. More details and competition guidelines are available at our websitehttp://www.cityoftacoma.org/cms/One.aspx?portalId=169&pageId=143940.

Questions? Don't hesitate to get in touch!

Best regards,
