Hi Adam,

Though not an AB and this package that they tested may be a bit heavier than
what your AB comes in at, the performance tests will be very similar.

ePerf_MidThrustJetPort_25hp_0199-AVN-Z.pdf

and lastly..

All three RIBs are different, but the results should be able to provide you
with a fairly concise average that you can apply to your AB package.

Many variables play into the end result and you simply cannot actually
determine it (for real) without running your boat, loaded.
Some have already been pointed out in responses to your original post.

Not mentioned are the type of prop, the condition of your prop, the condition
of your carburetors (are they clean, burning the fuel efficiently, etc), the
condition of the bottom of the boat (is it clean, painted, etc).

Best Regards,

Stephan, this is fantastic data. It does look like an estimate of 10mpg at

planing speed should serve me well. I understand about the other variables.
While my prop looks to be in excellent shape, I don't know its diameter or
pitch. And the bottom is clean, with a black ablative bottom paint.

Which leads me to a couple of related questions:

  • Can anyone comment on experience with adjustable- (not variable-) pitch
props like the Piranha or Propulse?
  • What bottom paint is recommended for a RIB? The black ablative makes a
huge mess and gets everywhere. If we keep the dinghy on the boat deck is
there any real reason to use bottom paint?

Thanks. This has been a great thread.
