Bicycle the Back Roads of Swan Creek Park - Bike on your own, or join the individual & family group bicycle ride at 10 a.m. and explore the back roads in Swan Creek Park’s upland area, once used for housing shipyard workers in the late 1940s. Today, this flat, paved area is a popular recreation area for walking, jogging and bicycling. Remember bicycle helmets are required in Tacoma/Pierce County.
You can also hike along the canyon rim, learn about Swan Creek Park’s habitat and history, or pick up a map of the canyon trail. Free children’s activities will also be available. Or, simply stop by to pick up free resource materials - Swan Creek Park maps & history, spring bird list, and native plant information, plus salmon-friendly cleaning recipes and more. The City of Tacoma EnviroChallenger van will also be at the park site with activities and resources.
This Swan Creek Park “Open House” is part of the citywide 3rd Annual Green Tacoma Day celebration, an event of the Green Tacoma Partnership, held in conjunction with National Public Lands Day. The Green Tacoma Partnership is a public private partnership between the City of Tacoma, Metro Parks Tacoma, Tahoma Audubon Society, Cascade Land Conservancy, neighborhood groups and others - working together to sustain natural spaces throughout Tacoma. www.greentacoma.org.
