Before immersing any precision stuff  oil,  you should check the leakage current/resistance of the oil.  One procedure is to immerse two electrodes in a REALLY CLEAN glass container of the stuff and hook a 1000V or greater supply with a sub-microammeter in series.    You are generally looking for resistance well over 1E12 ohms.  Beware of false readings due to surface contamination of the power supply/ammeter.  Look at the Fluke 720A KVD manuals for their unit contamination testing procedures.
