another good passing of warblers
Wed, Sep 7, 2011 6:42 PM
Numbers were difficult to count, but i estimate 100 or so. yes-birds feed and move during the rain, but we see this not often because humans don't like to go out birding in the rain, including me anyway.

Longspurs, Snow Buntings, Horned Larks.
Sat, Mar 8, 2003 7:25 PM
This morning and again early this afternoon I estimated there to be 500 Snow Buntings, 200 Horned Larks and at least 6 Lapland Longspurs (and very probably double that number). The field is on the west side of Heritage Road approximately 2 kilometers north of the Mayfield Side Road.

[Ontbirds]Pomerine Jaeger and Little Gulls still in Barrie
Sat, Nov 5, 2005 12:58 PM
(for information on id of this bird refer to Jean Iron's previous Ontbirds post) There are many (impossible to count but I would agree with Jean's estimate of at least 20) LITTLE GULLS among the hundreds of BONAPARTE'S. The birds were feeding close to shore allowing very close looks. This is an excellent chance to study Little Gulls.

[Ontbirds]Large flock of 2,000+ Snow Bunting - Ailsa Craig
Thu, Feb 23, 2006 1:11 AM
It was hard to make a good estimate as these birds were swirling and landing on both sides of the road as well as out in the fields. The recent thaws have uncovered some pretty good looking manure - likely spread in December. There were ~ 75 Horned Lark and a few Lapland Longspur as well.

[Ontbirds] Massive Sandhill Crane exodus in Erie Beach, Chatham-Kent
Sun, Jan 25, 2015 6:00 PM
I estimate there were between 200 and 300 birds in total. Perhaps the Long Point birds decided to leave the province today. I'd be interested to hear if they were seen over the tip of Pelee today and if the Long Point birders note that the birds there have departed.

[Ontbirds] Ross's Goose, Casselman
Mon, Oct 31, 2016 1:28 AM
Today there were tens of thousands in the turf fields north of Lafleche Road; others have estimated the number at up to 65,000 which seems about right. At noon today a splinter flock of about 1,000 feeding in freshly cut corn closer to Cassleman contained at least one adult Ross's Goose, along with a lone Cackling Goose.
