TWL: [TWL] Re: Regulations for boats over 65 feet
Sun, Apr 14, 2002 2:55 PM
That might put the 100-ton limit somewhere around 65' (too messy to calculate a general estimate of length) and the 200-ton limit just over 100' for vessels of ordinary form factor. Ben

I may be being a little heavy-handed in estimating the probable labor charges, but I also know that no job is ever as straightforward as it initially appears.

The Corp of engineers estimates the cost of wooden pilings at $ 10 a foot--or $300 a 30 footer. That is a bit high for residential pilings--but I can check with the local supplier. ( our group on Bayou Chico has a barge with frame and several pumps, so we set our own pilings---when I moved I had to hire a piling setter--and it was $$$. Bob Austin

Winnie the Pooh to set sail again

I'm working odd hours for a neighbor's commercial construction company, as the sole engineer and estimator. The good news is, I told the boss before hiring-on that we have already panned a voyage for the period June to October. June is almost here.

Re: T&T: AIS

We estimate that the number of vessels affected by the AIS portion of this rulemaking is approximately 17,400 foreign and domestic vessels." Full text on http://tinyurl.com/ds44e This would make the fitting of an AIS receiver in leisure craft even more useful. Are Recreational vessels next-in-line for mandatory fitting of a full AIS system???

Height above sea level
Sat, Mar 11, 2006 9:46 PM
When you can see the ocean/bay/sound level you can estimate pretty well. But what about locations where you can't? I keep wondering if a Tsunami hits how high my house property is above sea level....

Re: T&T: VHF problems
Sat, Apr 8, 2006 11:35 PM
I would estimate that you have 2 problems. 1. Some transmitting problem that results in a weak output. 2. Radios with poor selectivity on receive, that allows channel 9 to bleed over onto another channel, such as 16.. If #2 is correct, the only solution is radios with better selectivity.

I am in a waiting mode for these estimates to come back before going further. Thank God my survey is less than 2 years old..........close though. It was done November 4, 2004. Also, it has become obvious in the case of Progressive, that independent agents do have much more latitude in what they can and can't write.
