Entering a new era at Prairie View A&M University on Food Security Research
Wed, Aug 29, 2018 5:24 AM
Worldwide estimates indicate 1 out of 9 persons are food insecure. In the United States, the persons who are food insecure have been estimated at 12% of the population. Compared to the national average, Texas ranked among the highest at about 17% in 2015.

composition of plankton upon which gulls are feeding

Each line contained thousands of gulls and we estimated well over 50,000 birds. There were most likely more birds to the west of our view, so 50,000 was probably a very low estimate. Charlie Barnard Jr. Stratford

The exact size of the eastern arctic breeding population which migrates north from winter areas in nw south american via coastal Georgia, the Carolinas and Virginia then via the great lakes basin to breeding areas in nw Ontario and n Manitoba is still uncertain with the best estimates for the major staging area Virginia.

[Ontbirds] THOUSANDS OF TUNDRA SWANS AT GREENWAY RD. LAMBTON COUNTY.
Tue, Mar 24, 2009 3:19 AM
Many years ago 20,000 were counted---it took me 3/4 of an hour and then an estimated 2,000 flew in to join them. So up to 22,000 swans can be here at one time. Absolutely stunning viewing.

[Ontbirds] Little Gull viewing weekend at Oshawa Second Marsh - day 2

When we later went down to the lakefront after most of the Bonaparte's Gulls had returned there, we noted a large loafing flock of Bonaparte's Gull that I conservatively estimated to contain more than 10,000 individuals, so this Little Gull count, even though it contains close to 40% of the estimated North American population, is likely a significant underestimate

I made this estimate with Crouch's equation for planing hulls: Velocity[knots] = 150 * (shaft HP / displacement[lb])^0.5 In less than optimal conditions, you will probably get a reliable 18 knots at WOT. You say your current engines are 210 HP Cummins BTA-5.9s. At WOT, what RPMs do you get, and what velocity are you making?

TWL: Beating to Wind

The "book" on wave prediction estimates that a wave 3 times the average height is about a one in 4000 occurrence. This estimate is a mathematical calculation that only relates to the real world in a loose sort of way. Don't get me wrong about the science boys. I am a big fan of their formulas and tables of prediction.

Stinkin WInd Squared

All this was estimated on the original assumption of a boat of about 40 feet in length needing 40 hp to reach hull speed. Remember the power goes up by the square of the wind speed.
