[Ontbirds]Kingbird Roost at Hillman Marsh
Fri, Aug 27, 2004 1:09 AM
Just prior to sunset today (from about 7:30-8:00) Eastern Kingbirds roosting in the trees at SW Hillman Marsh were estimated at 400+ birds. Such sunset concentrations appear to be annual at Hillman Marsh, but most years I forget to check.

[Ontbirds] At least 30,000 Greater Snow Geese west of Casselman, east of Ottawa
Sun, Dec 24, 2006 11:26 PM
Numbers were difficult to estimate. As we watched, more geese, in the thousands, were flying in from the southeast. Possibly these were the same group reported by Jacques Bouvier, but this is the first time they have been seen west of Casselman.

I am not familiar enough to estimate age. West Perth Wetlands (aka Mitchell Lagoon) is located in Mitchell, ON at the west end of Wellington St, off Hwy 8. Mitchell is about 20 min west of Stratford along highway 8. Good Birding, This email and any files transmitted may contain information which is confidential.

[Ontbirds] Ottawa - GBBGs, Glaucous Gull
Fri, Dec 18, 2009 4:11 PM
The vast majority of gulls present were GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULLS, I'd estimate at least 100, with some AMERICAN HERRING GULLS mixed in (about 25+). There was a single second-year GLAUCOUS GULL feeding on a mallard carcass on the ice. An interesting, non-bird sighting was a RIVER OTTER that was diving and feeding right near the banks of the river.

On April 30th an estimated 5000-7000 Red Admirals per hour were migrating north along the west shore of the island (no counts attempted today). Today was the first day of notable Dragonfly sightings with numerous Swamp Darners, Variegated Meadowhawk, Painted Skimmer, Black Saddlebags and a Twelve-spotted Skimmer. Good Birding!

Hello Ontbirds people, This morning (approx. 9:00 - noon), Bob Cermak, Aaron Hywarren, Bernie Ladouceur, Paul Mirsky and I observed a large, tight flock of Snow Geese (our collective estimate was ~ 75,000) in the Cobb's Creek floodplain area along Russell Rd. southwest of Johnston Rd., east of Bourget.

[Ontbirds] Franklin's Gulls just north of Erieau, Chatham-Kent
Sat, Nov 14, 2015 11:29 PM
It was difficult to get an exact count, but we estimated a minimum of 55 Franklin's Gulls amongst the widely scattered flock of predominantly Ring-billed Gulls. This is far and away a new high number for the Rondeau bird checklist circle. By about 4:45 many of the gulls were noted heading out over the lake, adjacent to Erie Shore Drive.

Re: Re: Freezers

The minimum would be a Hart 1000, pref 1500 watt unit, because of the startup being at least three times the running load. 30 amps from your 12 volt system running would be a conservative estimate. I have a sailboat (hopefully just sold) with holding plates freezer and 110/12 volt refer.
