House panel postpones debate on plan to temporarily close S.C. State
Wed, Feb 18, 2015 4:50 PM
The measure calls for the closure of the school for at least three semesters to deal with an estimated $70 million in debt. Before the committee met, however, Sen. Marlon Kimpson, D-Charleston, told a group of supporters that even if the measure advanced from the House, it doesn't have much chance in the Senate.

Re: [CT Birds] Wild Turkeys in CT
Wed, Mar 28, 2007 2:39 PM
Excerpt: "To get a better handle on the number of turkeys in the wild - one estimate put it at 40,000 about four years ago - the DEP last year began a survey that seeks input from the agency's staff and the public. The agency wants reports of wild turkey sightings, especially hens with poults, as the young are known, between June 1 and Aug. 31. ...

If you use this site to estimate when high tide will be make sure you change the time zone to local time as GMT seems to be the default. Chris Nick Bonomo wrote: >From Nick Bonomo: 6/4 - Milford, Milford Pt -- 5 adult RED KNOT The tides today (and apparently last night) were very high.

Re: [CT Birds] yard bird observations over time

When it comes to forest interior habitat, the declines are quite steep, UCONN's Center for Landuse Education and Research estimates that we have lost over 150,000 acres of forest interior habitat in just the 1985-2002 timeframe.

Eagleville Preserve, Mansfield 8/5/08
Tue, Aug 5, 2008 7:09 PM
Location: Eagleville Preserve, Mansfield Observation date: 8/5/08 Notes: 10 is a very conservative estimate for Yellow Warblers. They were everywhere, in many cases pairs chasing. Recently I saw very few and thought they might have started migration.

Nighthawk invasion...
Sun, Aug 23, 2009 1:17 AM
This evening at 7:15 or so I estimate I saw one group of nighthawks of 100+ individuals hawking insects over Silver Lane in Manchester (where it goes over I-384.) I only noticed them because the phone and power lines over the road were full of starlings and other small birds that were also obviously hawking insects overhead.

Migration push
Wed, Dec 23, 2009 8:44 PM
I estimated at least 800 birds and again, that is probably low. I was looking out over some large corn fields and could never see the whole group at 1 time. Echelon after echelon of them came by, sometimes 2 and three groups wide, and groups at several different altitudes at the same time.
