Aluminum Trawler
Sat, Jan 20, 2007 3:10 AM
Once I can get a cost estimate together I can decide whether to do it. If it seems too expensive or the builders or suppliers or I have any qualms I will look for an off the shelf trawler from one of the proven makers. I appreciate the advice I have already received on and off line and hope to hear more.

If you know how fast the gears turn or the pump, pumps you can estimate the hard over times. Your autopilot system will never be any faster than this elementary set of power versus required effort.

This is just too good not to share: "Justice Story summarized it well, as he so often did: In cases of salvage, the measure of reward has never been adjusted by a mere estimate of the labor and services performed by the salvors.

To summarise The weight of the 7000lb dry boat will increase with fuel, water, supplies and kit on board and with the weight of the trailer a safe estimate of towing weight would be 12000lbs A > ton should do the job but a one tonner may do it better. A van can do the job as well as a pickup 4WD is not vital if you have a locking diff.

Estimates for separating the two run into the billions. So, don't poop where you eat/drink? Too late. Further, you would not believe the frequency with which the beaches on Lake St. Clair are closed due to high levels of E. coli found in the water.

Re: T&T: Radar

The ranging function gives an accurate estimation of distance to other vessels, buoys, or anything else of interest -- as long as it is in radar range. Also, it is my experience that I often see other vessels on my radar screen before I see them visually, even in broad daylight.

Good Service
Wed, Jul 22, 2009 1:09 PM
Before they do any work, the service coordinator looks at the job, gives you a rate sheet with hourly costs, and then estimates the hours. Had to wait for the part to be delivered, but had a cozy little spot to stay with very clean bathrooms, etc. Pretty unusual for a working boat yard.
