Coventry Lake- re-cap from Sunday's count
Tue, Dec 20, 2016 3:36 PM
I estimated 60% remaining frozen. As I expected I found pretty much the same birds, but quite a few more in some cases, probably because the fog was completely gone and the light was low but visibility very good.

Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch (03 Oct 2024) 203 Raptors

Today there was a strong Monarch push and I was estimating easily 150-200 per hour and they never stopped for the entire 6 and 1/2 hours we were there. At times they even tried settling into a few small roosts right in the trees beside the viewing platform.

TWL: Magnetic Fuel Treatment
Thu, Jan 25, 2001 9:30 PM
It was estimated that the filter in the non-magnetic leg would have been totally blocked after a total of 42d whereas its magnetic leg counterpart would last 240d before being completely blocked. Samples were also taken from various points in both legs of the system to estimate the bug population.

Re: T&T: live aboard costs?

The $120K for the same boat on east coast is my estimate based on higher marina fees, higher insurance, more expensive fuel, etc. And that $80K is bare bones on a new boat (with no loan) and with very little maintenance required.

If jitter mostly measures information about the samples the estimate doesn't rely on then it tells you little about the samples the estimate does rely on, and hence can provide no prediction about the quality of an estimate derived from those samples alone.

Re: The SI second and the ease of realization (was: leap seconds finally being retired?)
Fri, Nov 25, 2022 9:20 PM
The produced EAL clock will however be somewhat of in frequency, so the small set of primary references is used to frequency reference and the EAL error is estimated and corrected for into the TAI time-scale. Once TAI is used, the leap-second information is added into forming the UTC time-scale.
