Re: KK-42 Water Tanks
Mon, May 4, 1998 1:01 AM
Then I can estimate how long I have to go on the other tank -- to keep track of the last tank I made a wood sounding stick (with calibration marks) to track the last drops so I don't get any surprises at the very end. I hope these ramblings help some. - Bryant

Big Anchors Better?
Wed, Dec 9, 1998 7:52 AM
But I know that anchor loads are over estimated and bottom strength information is almost non existent. The problem of anchor failure lies with three factors, bottom material strength, dynamic loads, and poor procedure.

Re: Single vs. Multi. Vis. Oil
Mon, Jan 11, 1999 11:50 AM
If the estimable Mr. Smith prefers 30wt to 15w40, be happy. It is, however, troubling that he bases his recommendation on such specious arguments. The respective additive packages of single grade and multi grade versions of the same label oil (whether it's Delo, Delvac, Guardol, Rotella, or Ursa) have far more similarities than differences.

Ship aground in Oregon
Sat, Feb 6, 1999 8:41 PM
The breakers against the ship were estimated at 20 feet and should increase over the weekend. Events leading up to the grounding are vague at this point, but apparently it happened while the ship was laying offshore and awaiting a harbor pilot who could not get out of port due to high seas.

Meyer estimated only a few thousand are in use today. "In all honesty, we're not quite sure what to expect," Meyer said.

An added benefit of doing this is you can easily estimate the day's >fuel burn when you open the valves for a check and see the level change. > >For those contemplating installing this system, you should use a medium >wall, small bore (~1/4") tube. Avoid the very thin stuff. A popular brand is >'Tygon'.

TWL: Re: Freezer insulation

To estimate what happens to the temperature, we need to know the specific heat of the stuff inside the container. The specific heat of water is 1 and the specific heat of normal air is 0.24. It takes one BTU to raise (or lower) one pound of water one degree F. That means that getting a good answer to your question is complex beyond all expectation. 5.

TWL: More on teak deck removal
Thu, May 18, 2000 7:11 PM
A Marina had estimated the job at $17,000.00. They worked in a covered slip, so they could work in any weather. They started on October 1, and we took the boat back on Thanksgiving weekend. What a deal The finished work looked like factory. I wish I could give you their names, but as I said they wish to remain anonymous.
