An estimated 3,000 hunters participate in the shorebird hunt annually. Currently, shooting parties on the island are not regulated and no information is available on the number of shorebirds taken. I would estimate the person was in our garage at 6 pm. This is north vuecrest and our garage is not street facing. He had to walk behind our house. It was a pretty bold move at that time of day. We did not see a person, but this was around in the same timeframe that I drove into the drive.

The number of Horned Grebes in Popham Bay has escalated to an estimated 100 birds. In Presqu'ile Bay near the lighthouse, there was a Red-necked Grebe on October 3. Mute Swans are also congregating in Presqu'ile Bay, with approximately 50 being counted from some vantage points.

Such areas are almost always quite wet, and I would estimate that prime locations for Sharp-tailed Sparrows generally have from 2 to 10 inches of water. No doubt Sharp-tailed Sparrow is far more numerous than is generally realized, and that pertains to both Ontario and Michigan.
