[Ontbirds] FW: Community Services decision (no facts needed)
Wed, Apr 20, 2016 2:45 PM
Without a detailed design study which is the only way the City, LPMA and citizens will have some idea of the real cost of the project that is now being estimated to be $16 — twice as high as first suggested in 2013. 6.

Adding stabilizers / a summary
Thu, Nov 12, 1998 9:12 PM
What's a rough cost estimate for installed Niaids? I'm about to make an offer on an old Krogen 42. >DID YOU MAKE YOUR OFFER, JIM? FROM HAL WYMAN 54 KK OWNER In May of '92 I had Naiad stabilizers installed on my Krogen 54, at Associated Marine, on the Dania cutoff canal. The installation was by Q.M.S. marine as I recall.

Re: Lessons learned -- Trawler Squat

In my estimation, Mr. Krogen was about the most talented naval architect to ever design and build a recreational trawler, in that he was able to make his boats squat differently from a true commercial trawler. In fact, he makes them squat more like a semi displacment boat.

I'm pretty sure I can estimate the market value within 10% and the insurance company has never questioned its insured value. You hear a lot about maintenance of wooden boats. I can only speak for mine. All maintenance is done by the yard. The bottom and topsides are painted annually. The coach house and decks need painting about every three years.

Re: TWL: Personal experience with computers on boats.

In case the computer failed, we would still have heading and ETA estimates without having to scramble around too much. We find that if we plan an SOG of 8.7 kts average, our ETAs and ATAs are very close. We would also print out the next day's tide tables for departure and destination, and any current tables that would be of value. Am I anal? You bet!

TWL: Accident Report: NYC Commuter Ferry Fire
Wed, Jun 12, 2002 12:47 AM
The estimated cost to repair the vessel was $1.2 million. Investigators found that the fire likely started as a result of a loose connection in a junction box in the engine room and that an access door propped open by the crew allowed it to spread to other areas of the vessel.

Improved the accuracy of the estimated accuracy value. Correctly turn Anchor Drag and Off Course alarms on and off on Alarms setup page. Correctly display the Mode after restoring defaults on the General setup page. Correctly display the map page when rapidly changing pages.

TWL: Trawler Owner Ripped off be Boatyard
Wed, Oct 9, 2002 10:32 PM
Parts came back (weeks have passed) and failed the test so they were going to replace all pieces ($3900 parts and $1800 labor was the estimate). So off we go and everything is put back together and the motor runs for 20 minutes and locks up. They say I have a problem.

Being able to provide bounding times/dates for a departure & route, then having the software recommend an optima departure based on estimated SOW and current/tide links is very handy. - Method to connect with and exchange data with a GPS.
