Re: [time-nuts] GPS Phase locked Local Oscillator experiment

The oncore estimates the local oscillator frequency 0.1 seconds before the pps output pulse and picks the future clock edge at that moment. (Adding or subtracting 10 Hz from the local oscillator frequency results in the same sawtooth output.) The oncore software tracking filters have dynamic bandwidths but get very very narrow after two minutes.

For more information, please see "SPICE Analysis of Crystal Oscillators" http://pstca.com/spice/xtal/clapp.htm You can estimate the value of the crystal ESR by finding the Q of your crystal and working backwards. I'm attaching a gif of your schematic for reference.

Some estimates for the effect of multipath on code phase receivers can be found: http://bbcr.uwaterloo.ca/~wzhuang/papers/iee95_gps.pdf Since the better timing receivers use carrier phase smoothing of the code phase timing, both the carrier phase and code phase performance of the antenna are important

Re: [time-nuts] How does one actually do Allan variation graphs?

Also, it gives a larger amount of raw data, allowing for the increased degrees of freedom and quicker convergence of estimator(s). Do use TimeLab, I think it is a great way to get going. It's also fun to see the curve converge as more data comes in... Cheers, Magnus

They appear late versions but I have not opened them up to get a version or date estimate. I came across the manual and software for these many years ago (~2005) from a website (now defunct) when I was searching for literature on an ATT RFG-RB standard I acquired for my ham radio workbench.
