The Omega counter is the linear regression / least square estimator. I presented an accelerated version of this last year at EFTF and IFCS.

Evidently previous estimates were in the two arc minute range. Hanbury Brown mentions that a pretty detailed description of Galilieo's methods and attention to detail were given in Galileo's "Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems".

Both the adjusted offset and the measured offset are ever 0ns, and the estimated error stucks at 901ns, that I think that is something like a chrony floor (I have seen it drop to zero along time with other chorny version) After a short time from boot, the results of the tracking command are: # chronyc tracking Reference ID    : 47505300 (GPS) Stratum

Test with yet another amplitude/slew-rate and you can refine that estimate and validate it. If you want to have fun, try different trigger directions etc. to see how well calibrated the inputs are. As Ilya mentioned, calibration is essentially just a quantified comparison to a known good reference, giving you an estimate of how much the instrument reading is off under well-defined conditions.

Together with the aid of private funding and a group of dedicated volunteers the Trumpeter Swan population was estimated in 2007 at 1000 birds and was classified as a re-established self-sustaining population in Ontario. Today the Trumpeter Swan population in Ontario is 2500+ swans.

The prices for this stuff are fairly standardized - your local utility or roads department probably has a "standard bid list" for most of the more common items that they use for doing estimates. Caltrans certainly does (a 48" precast concrete manhole is about $1500). So that gives you a ballpark when you start calling vendors.
