Marguerite Northbound in the ICW-- Wrigthsville Beach, N.C.
Sun, May 23, 1999 7:38 PM
Estimated current was over 3 knots. We stayed in Ashley Marina in Charleston. Marina is tired and starting to look run down. TV cable did not work on face dock. Some of the phone connections failed to work. Bathrooms were not serviced the time I used them. The attitude of some of the dock hands was not all that good.

Re: Trawlers 101 - Bayliners etc.

Reliability does not seem to be a major problem as the estimates of engine life range from 8,000-to15,000 hours (depending upon who you talk to, the time of day and the phase of the moon) before major overhaul.

TWL: RE: RE: RE: AGM Batteries
Sun, Mar 11, 2001 5:34 AM
Following the explosion, the battery, estimated to be approximately 10 pounds in weight, fell from the shattered giatronic box onto an operator's lower back. He and a coworker immediately exited the east doorway of the living quarters following the explosion.

I try to estimate that up front, but in the final analysis, I usually find out the reality at sea. At which point I change plans to suit. Most of the boats I see are not up to being out in really rough conditions. I act accordingly.

TWL:Phillip Rhodes Project Update Dec 15, 2001
Mon, Dec 17, 2001 1:00 PM
I estimate that I will be ready to plate the first segment of the deck in a few weeks. It would be sooner, but there is a lot of prep work to do, and work (you know, the job that pays the $$) intrudes again. I have had a couple of 70-hour workweeks recently due to a rather complicated project.

Re: TWL: Copper plating

These figures are based on measured fuel and maintenance savings and estimates of the increased earnings potential of this boat due to additional days of availability when compared to the sister steel hulled boats. The corrosion rate of the hull was less than the 0.00125 mm/yr reported for long-term exposure of C70600(3).

Parts came back (weeks have passed) and failed the test so they were > going to replace all pieces ($3900 parts and $1800 labor was the estimate). > So off we go and everything is put back together and the motor runs for 20 > minutes and locks up. They say I have a problem.

TWL: RE: WX and the NW Wind
Wed, Nov 27, 2002 10:36 PM
However, if the fetch and or time with which the wind can act can not be assumed to be limited and that you can fairly accurately estimate these parameters and their consequences, then it would be wise if your fear got the best of you.

TWL: Why B&G pilot pump failure?
Wed, Dec 4, 2002 5:35 AM
We estimate the usage of each pump to be roughly the same, based simply on measuring the remaining brush lengths. These are 11mm remaining on both pumps (18.5mm new). So the first failure was at about 700 hours life - which seems incredibly short. Very few hours of that have been in DWIND/downwind steering mode - almost all have been NORM/normal mode.

TWL: RE: Electronic Navigation techniques ( Was Nobeltec / Maptech $$ value)

You can sit back and use your eyes to look about instead of constantly checking on your helmsman and estimating position on the paper chart. ETA / Fuel Mileage I think somebody mentioned that it would be nice to have this work without GPS input. It does.
