I estimate that we have traveled approximately 2500 miles since we acquired the boat. We took delivery in Grosse Isle, Michigan in July, 2001 after finding the boat on the internet. The very first trip we took aside from a short familiarization ride was a multi month trip from Detroit, Michigan to Baltimore, Maryland.

Re: Defining Trawler Range and HP

Until that time, I will always have some degree of uncertainty in my range estimates. It is really silly for me to talk about range at this time, since my accessories will burn more fuel than my propellers. This is common for fishing boats of this sort. This is also the reason I am carrying so much fuel.

TWL: The "Shakedown" cruise (long)

The charge was $135/hr from the time the towboat left until it returned to Friday Harbor (estimated at 5 1/2 hours). Towing distances and times can be long in the straits and islands. I also called the Coast Guard and informed them of my situation.

The outer part of the bar had the highest waves we estimated at 20-25 feet. I'm not a surfer, but believe me we surfed. If we had broached I wouldn't be writing this. I couldn't see much since we were headed directly into the sun, although the sun line did give me a point of aim.

But for our purposes, without better tests, they at least provide a simple rule of thumb from which to estimate. Obviously, longer boats have better chances. But, greater beam although it gives better initial AND ultimate stability; if the vessel is overturned, wider beam increases the time to return upright and may even preclude that from happening.

I also did not add plots of the histogram, estimated histogram and difference histogram. Should be done.

I believe the 2 ms/day / century estimate we use is one such measurement. > > For more on earth rotation rate, UTC and leap seconds see https://www.ucolick.org/~sla/leapsecs/dutc.html > > Surely in the literature there is a pile of information or speculation regarding all the rotational energy in the universe.

But I could do an arm-waving estimate. Suppose that the delayed signal component is in phase with the direct signal, but 20 dB down, and is delayed by 100 nsec. Then I could see how the apparent centroid of a given chip could be displaced by about 10 nsec, which would be enough to cause complaint from many time-nuts.

Their turn around time estimate is 4 > weeks. >> Hopefully, I will have it back by first part of November. >> >> I found the folks in Oak Ridge very friendly and helpful.
