[Ontbirds]Tundra Swans Point Pelee
Mon, Mar 14, 2005 1:28 AM
I would estimate a couple of thousand swans could be seen from the Marsh Boardwalk tower. Sanctuary pond is frozen but the edge of the pond to the east is open and that's where the swans were, Lake Pond.

[Ontbirds] Some Graster Snow Geese still along St. Lawrence
Sun, Apr 3, 2011 8:21 PM
I roughly estimate there were up to 40,000 birds along the edge of the ice (at one point a large number flew up and I estimated that about 20,000 were in the air with about the same number still on the ice edge. They are distant from the viewing point (perhaps half a kilometre away).

[Ontbirds] Siskinmania video from Sault Ste. Marie, thoughts on the "rare" Green Morphs
Sat, Feb 18, 2012 10:19 PM
At times there was well over 500 birds but it was really impossible to estimate. During that period they ate over 200lbs of black oil sunflower seeds as well as over 200lbs of Nyjer seed. I am now a preferred customer at our local feed mill. At times the back yard was incredibly chaotic with birds flying everywhere.

Trawler Yacht, World cruising, etc
Fri, Oct 22, 1999 4:45 PM
I estimate that if there were 6 participants each would have the vessel on their own for more than six weeks a year. At the end of the cruise the vessel would be sold and its residual value distributed. I estimate costs before resale of the vessel per participant in the region of 600,000 based on 6. After resale, perhaps U.S.$400,000.

Re: Switching from sail to trawler
Mon, Feb 22, 1999 4:39 PM
The comparison of these two budgets appears to verify Bryant Vann's estimation that fuel costs for sailboats is about 60 to 75% for those of a trawler. And depending on how much you cruise per year, that difference may be only $300 per year or less.

Estimate how much weight for each kind of material, i.e. Lead = 12,000 3. Get an engineering book that gives you the density of materials, i.e. lead = 600 pounds per cubic foot (as best as I can remember) 4. Divide weight of material (12,000 pounds of lead) by density to get cubic feet of lead. 5.

TWL: Re: conundrum

You can use various hp estimations from your engine RPM - HP graft to play with this a little - 15 to 20 minutes with the Michigan page may give you quite a bit of information .
