I held a presentation on the use of least-square methods to estimate phase, frequency and parabolic variance (PVAR), work I have done together with Francoise Vernotte and Enrico Rubiola. It was interesting as two counter manufactures have approached me wishing to implement this.

The fins on our boat are located about half way back on the hull and an estimated, 15 to 18 inches underwater. It would be far more likely that they be broken by a misplaced sling when hauling the boat.

As a repair shop owner I can tell you with certainty that I HATE it when a job exceeds the estimate... I much prefer that the work finishes on time and on price... That way I have a happy customer who will come back, and I can get the next repair job started on schedule... But in the real world there are always set backs... .

Blackbirds
Thu, Jan 28, 2010 6:18 PM
I estimated well over 1000 birds each day. They were coming into Somers from the south in a steady stream lasting a good 5 minutes and landing in the corn fields on Hutton Rd. where the 100+ Horned Larks were also present. Pretty impressive flock.

>From Frank Mantlik 7/21 Stratford, Short Beach Park - in the early morning haze (6:45 am) there were an estimated 1400 COMMON TERNS and 200 LEAST TERNS, as well as many roosting gulls and egrets. I went back this evening (5:45pm) and there were similar tern numbers with most of them in flight and plunge-diving for fish.
