Stonington Point shearwaters this morning
Thu, Jul 26, 2018 11:50 AM
I estimated 150 birds between 6:30 and 7:00 am.  When I left, there were a few birds still going through.  A few were in Ct. waters, but virtually all were in NY waters.  I had 1 Sooty Shearwater in NY waters and 1 Great Shearwater in CT waters.  It flew across the end of the point inside the breakwater.

Member question - inclusionary zoning, clawback agreeemnts
Thu, Feb 11, 2016 2:42 PM
Chuck Has anyone dealt with inclusionary zoning/workforce housing, and specifically, how to calculate an estimate of damages for non-compliance, or fees in lieu of compliance? What goes into creating a formula for these fees? Charles W. Thompson, Jr.

On a local house's roof top- the roof was covered with an estimate of 200 Starlings-couldn't see the roof. Stopped at Crosby Pond on the way home and the Northern Pintails ( 1 drake, 2 hens) still there. Happy Holidays to everyone! Bev Propen, Orange

These are not easy to quantify, but over the years I've developed a system for generating what I think is a reasonable number that's more than a general estimate. Today's number is 2100. I also came up with 540 Cedar Waxwings. Also noteworthy was one Red-headed Woodpecker, three Dickcissels, about 15 Bobolinks and a few Purple Finch.

Re: GPS carrier phase for timing?

This takes your 7ps estimate to 700ps (which is more realistic). There are LOTS of noise sources that have to be accounted for to get precision measurements, including - ionospheric effects, tropospheric effects, satellite orbit uncertainties, satellite clock uncertainties, measuring instrument uncertainty (as Bob pointed out), and even more.

Re: GL: New Dock Pilings

I got SEVEN estimates !! I strongly suggest you have the piling crew run the cross stringers to your piling, bolted of course. Then you have a platform to which you can easily build your dock right across the stringers. R.
