[Ontbirds] Ross's Goose Winchester
Sat, Nov 14, 2015 6:12 PM
There are currently 2 Ross's Geese among an estimated 10,000 Snows, visible from the road just east of the Winchester Lagoons. It took about 1h of patient scoping to spot the Ross's, an adult accompanied by an immature. The Ross's were sticking together, with the adult reacting aggressively when Snows approached the immature too closely.

I would like to get a little more feed back on estimated costs without the boat payment included. I'm sure there are many of us out there wondering if we can afford to make this lifestyle change on our retirement income.

Storm Surge - Little River
Mon, Aug 30, 1999 11:52 AM
At morning high tide yesterday I estimated we had about 2.5 feet float left. I left the lines longer than I would have otherwise. Coquina is about 4 1/2 miles up the river from Little River Inlet and the surge was being predicted at 2 to 4 feet. Having done our best, we drove back to the mountains of western North Carolina.

Re: TWL: Small Engines and High Winds

Estimated sea height 15 feet plus. In spite of our windage neither have we had problems draggging anchor in winds in excess of 50 knots. Of course we set it carefully and use plenty of scope. -- Dolph and Beverly McCranie M/V The Right Whale (KK 48 Whaleback)

I would estimate that a world cruiser would be out of touch most of the time. The North Atlantic, Carib. , a band around the coasts of the US and Canada, South Africa, Australia and that's it folks! I don't think that the salespeople have looked at that map.

TWL: Fuel Tank replacement
Mon, Aug 6, 2001 6:29 PM
This morning I contacted what I am told is a well known and highly regarded yard, Marlow Marine in Palmetto, Florida and they gave me an estimate of $22-24K. Their method is to cut out the bottom of the boat, replace the tanks and then glass it back up. Wondering if anyone on the list has any experieince at this in the Florida area?

TWL: Insurance for damaged boats
Thu, Dec 27, 2001 2:12 AM
They typically insure the boat ashore at its actual cash value, from some beginning point up to some estimated finished value. They can go on to insure the virtually completed vessel for its launching, commissioning and sea-trial. They also cover materials and equipment on hand, but not yet installed.
