Re: [CT Birds] another question....

So I would estimate that many of CT's shorebirds are migrating overland and stopping along the shore. Rhode Island on the other hand may see more birds leaving the maritimes, stopping at Cape Cod and then heading for Eastern Long Island.

Re: [CT Birds] Stratford maybe 10K+ gulls

After a while we tried to estimate numbers, and my best estimate was 10,000 Ring-billed (plus or minus; including 4 with numbered wingtags), maybe 1000 Herring, 40 Great Black-backed, 7+ Bonaparte's Gulls, 1 LBBG, 1 BLACK-HEADED. In addition, there were lots of RB Mergansers, 100 Com. Goldeneyes, 25 WW Scoters, 16 Gadwall, 2 GW Teal, etc.

Total revenue are estimated at $3,700 short of the total spend. Our management firm, EMB received the proper instructions and has been transferring $2,312 a month to the reserve accounts. Left unchanged EMB would transfer $27,744 from the operating budget to the reserve account.

The actual time was twice the original estimate, and the actual cost was three times the original estimate.

TWL: Duck Speed

Placing a ruler on the ground, and observing them when they re-launched, allowed me to estimate their waterline length with confidence. I put it at 11 in, close to Don Dodds' original estimate of a foot. The second part of my work involved actual speed measurements.

RE: TWL: Price as a quality indicator (was Bow Thrusters)

This is hundreds less than other estimates from "marine" shops. I must also point out, that the truck shop "quoted" the price, all the other guys were very clear that they were just estimates, and if a bolt or something was harder to remove than they expected, it could cost "substantially" more.

The initial (not actually aboard the boat) power estimate by the marine air conditioner guy I plan to have come give me a more complete look is that the power available is adequate.

Re: T&T: Blister repair

As far as your immediate decision, have the boatyard give you an estimate for blister repair. Then knock the estimate off the asking price and see of the present owner will go for it. If he accepts the deal, here is the drill. For spot repair of the 60 blisters, block up the boat in a location where it can sit undisturbed for a few weeks.
