Re: Diesel Fuel Consumption vs. Horsepower

The real estimate of fuel is best obtained from a curve that the engine manufacturer puts out. It is called, "The Specific Fuel Curve" or something close. It shows the fuel burned in pounds of fuel per hour at maximum load for each engine RPM. The curve is never flat, but some modern engines have one that is flatter than in the past.

Re: Sea Anchors

The length intervals allow some adjustment to wave length and after studying storm waves I have concluded that you cannot estimate wave lengths of the= principal waves closer than 100 feet. Losing a sea anchor in use puts any boat in the trough where capsizing is= the result.

TWL: RE: Diesel Engine Experiences 001

I have not had the opportunity to check the Cummin's Marine Performance Curve against our Albin 43 and its Cummins 210's, but it will give a very good estimate at any rate.

You will have a better understanding of the construction of your boat and possibly be able to make the repairs yourself or at least be knowledgeable when facing the yard estimate for the repair. Bob Clinkenbeard Twin Screws Enterprises To accomplish a great task you must act....and dream.

The canvas guy I got an estimate from this morning said that he doesn't think there is a significant difference in results based upon color. I personally tend to disagree thinking that the white would result in a marked reduction in interior heat. Anyone on the list able to give me their experience with this?

TWL: Detroit turbos:cruise speed?
Sat, Oct 19, 2002 6:24 PM
I estimate my fuel consumption per mile is over 20% better at the slower speed, roughly .7 mpg vs .55 mpg at 1900 My mechanic claims that at this "slow speed" my turbos are not really working and unused fuel is likely to dirty the turbos & engine. He says the turbos don't kick in until over 1800 and he'd like me to run at 1900 normally.

TWL: Re: Bernouli effect and flight

Little math is needed to yield an estimate of many phenomena associated with flight. This description gives a clear, intuitive understanding of such phenomena as the power curve, ground effect, and high-speed stalls.
