Re: [time-nuts] To use or not to use transmission line splitters for GPS receivers

While this might apply to certain low-end, single-frequency units, direct tests of a standard AOA Dorne Margolin choke ring antenna have failed to detect any sensitivity of the clock estimates to antenna temperature variations.

Ie the uncertainty is in better than 1e-7 (compare with the estimated 5e-8 from above). Add to that averaging over multiple reference severs (4 in this case) and a sophisticated clock parameter estimation and the uncertainty goes down quite a bit.

So, if you estimate the line-slope, you need to compensate for tau and scale factor to estimate the power-level of that noise-type. You do this by dividing your ADEV reading with the scale-factor for that noise-type, and for the tau-value of the ADEV reading. Naturally you can do that on the AVAR values.

Your options are to sample at 184.32 MHz and decimate in the host machine down to 30.72 MHz for LTE decoding, or if that isn't an option then you need to place an RFNoC block at the output of the radio but before the DDC which will give you an input power estimate that you can read from the host periodically.

Eventually you will come up with a reasonable estimate. What really bugs me is when people put down something like 40+ Coot. What does the plus mean? They had 40 coot but there was more, how many more, 10 more, 50 more, 100 more? Why not just give it your best estimate and be done with it. Yesterday I was out birding and saw 10+ Starlings.

The correct extension of these blocks form the correct MDEV/MVAR estimator, and the correct extension of blocks for a Omega style response can form the correct PDEV/PVAR estimator.

The report estimates a $38 billion annual shortfall in what is needed for school facilities, with 24% of buildings in only fair or poor condition. Schools with temporary buildings rate even worse.

The Ensenada Shipyard Experience (Part 1)

Once in the marina, it is easy to get contractors to visit and give estimates for whatever work you wish to have done. First off, it takes a little research to determine exactly what capabilities are available in Ensenada.

The rest is "just" some estimation theory and linear algebra. So you'd profit twice from understanding it.

Lane got it all done on time and within estimate and it all worked fine when we left. If something is beyond his or his subs expertise, he will tell you. Not only that, he stays in touch, calls and e-mails frequently with status and up-dates. Leave a voice mail message and you get a call back that day.
