We made a count/estimate of 350, which I think was conservative. The best part was the presence of many juveniles. We figured about 25 percent of the group were recently fledged birds. We also had the first really big group of Semipalmated Sandpipers - about 3500.

2000+ Warblers Bluff Point Groton - 19 or 20 species
Fri, Aug 27, 2010 2:51 PM
My estimate of 2,000+ warblers is admittedly rather conservative. If you work out the rough number per minute for the hour between 06:15 and 07:15 it would be closer to double that, but I'm going to be very conservative and call it 2,000+.

Some More Stratford Birds 1/6
Fri, Jan 7, 2011 1:31 AM
-Cove Place: 2 female KING EIDERS continue, estimated 10,000 Greater Scaup, 7 Lesser Scaup, 4000 White-winged Scoters, 200 Surf Scoters, 1 Green-winged Teal (fly by). NOTE: All morning there was a small boat with 2 duck hunters anchored here; the flock was disturbed and scattered all over the area (and I assume a few birds in the bottom of their boat).

7/3 Western LI Sound - ROYAL TERN
Sun, Jul 3, 2011 5:07 PM
The Common Tern colony continues to be packed with birds, my estimate being 250 birds in & around the colony. One first-summer COTE was noted. There were no Least Terns. The terns all seemed to be feeding right around the island itself, coming up with many sand lance; they did not have to go far to find food.

. --- Also of interest: our friends at the Migration Policy Institute released an analysis today estimating that 5.5 million U.S. citizens and green-card holders were excluded from receiving the $1,200 pandemic relief checks Congress approved in March, because of the immigration status of their parents/spouse.

Presqu'ile IBA Shorebird Survey & R-t Loon

We didn't make a serious attempt at estimating numbers but there were thousands - perhaps in the 7500-10,000 range. Most birds appeared to be young of the year, but there were many sub-adults as well.
